ABOUT OUR LODGE

The Lodge was founded by the Rt Hon. Lord George Hamilton GCSI, who was a Conservative MP for 38 years, the First Lord of the Admiralty in 1885 and Secretary of State for India 1895-1903.

Lord George Hamilton was the Provincial Grand Master for Middlesex from 1892-1924 and, being a very active freemason, founded four lodges including our own where he remained a member until he died in 1927.

Locally, he was the Captain of Deal Castle 1899-1923 and the Mayor of Deal in 1909. He was also Captain of Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in 1906, which has led to a close association of the Golf Club with many members of the Lodge.

MEETINGS

We are a winter lodge that meets four times a year on the second Saturday of the months of February, April, October and December. Being a Saturday lodge, it suits those who are in full-time employment and especially those who may be working in London or in other distant locations. Our Installation Meeting is always held in October when the new Worshipful Master is installed.

LOCATION

Our Masonic Hall is in Sondes Road, Deal, which is close to the seafront, and we dine after each meeting in the same building.

There is a joining fee for all new members and an annual subscription plus a dining fee. The details of which may be obtained from the Lodge Secretary.

JOINING OUR LODGE

We are a small lodge with a current membership of 19, which enables new members to progress more easily. We have two candidates in the pipeline that are expected to join the lodge in the near future.

As mentioned above, many of our members are also members one of the four local Golf Clubs and, in particular that of Royal Cinque Ports, however we welcome all members whatever their interests.

Freemasonry is governed by its four main principles – charity, integrity, respect and friendship and these are all practised by the members. Giving is an essential part of freemasonry and each year the lodge supports local charities as well as the principal charity fund promoted by the Masonic Province of East Kent. Freemasonry is the second biggest donor to charities after the Lottery.
